About Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is celebrated every year on February 14. Named after Saint Valentine, it has become the world's best-known day for expressing romantic love and affection.
The modern celebration is built on small gestures: greeting cards, flowers — especially red roses — chocolates, and dinners for two. In the United States it is a major commercial occasion for the card, flower, and confectionery industries, and many couples treat it as a date night.
Valentine's Day is not a public holiday anywhere — offices and schools operate normally. The date is fixed, so it falls on February 14 regardless of the weekday.
Whether you're planning something romantic or just curious how far away it is, the countdown above ticks down to the next February 14, second by second.
